Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a catalyst to psychotherapy. It is designed to help clients move past the "stuckness" of perfectionism, people-pleasing, and chronic self-doubt by softening defensive patterns and allowing for deeper emotional breakthroughs.
If you feel you have plateaued in traditional talk therapy, KAP offers a path to access the parts of yourself that are often shielded by the inner critic.
How Ketamine Works
Ketamine is a safe, legal, and effective medicine used to treat treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Unlike traditional antidepressants that can take weeks to work, Ketamine's mood-enhancing effects are often felt within hours.
The Science of Change: Ketamine works by blocking NMDA receptors and stimulating AMPA receptors in the brain. This process encourages the growth of new synaptic connections—a phenomenon known as neuroplasticity. Essentially, it creates a "window of opportunity" where the brain is more flexible, making it easier to rewire old narratives and establish healthier interpersonal boundaries.
The KAP Journey: What to Expect
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is a three-stage process. Unlike traditional therapy, which relies mainly on conversation, KAP combines medical intervention with intentional psychological support to help you access deeper layers of healing.
Phase 1: Preparation
Setting the Foundation
Before your first dosing session, we meet for 1–2 Preparation Sessions. The goal is to ensure you feel safe, informed, and ready.
Medical Clearance: You will meet with a licensed medical prescriber to ensure ketamine is safe for you and to receive your prescription.
Intention Setting: We discuss what you hope to shift in your life—whether it’s releasing old patterns of people-pleasing or finding relief from persistent anxiety.
Education: I will walk you through exactly what the medicine feels like and how to navigate the experience.
Phase 2: The Dosing Session
The Experience of Expansion
These sessions are longer than standard therapy (usually 90 to 120 minutes) to allow the medicine to take full effect and provide space for a gentle "return."
The Setting: You will be in a comfortable, quiet space (via telehealth). You may choose to use eye shades and a curated musical playlist to help you focus inward.
Administration: You self-administer the prescribed lozenge.
The Experience: Depending on the dose, you may feel a sense of deep relaxation, a "floating" sensation, or a shift in perspective that allows you to view your life and challenges with more compassion and less judgment.
Therapeutic Support: I am present throughout the entire session to provide a grounded, supportive "holding space," ensuring you feel safe and supported as you explore your internal world.
Phase 3: Integration
Turning Insights into Change
This is the most critical phase of the work. Integration sessions typically happen 24–72 hours after your dosing session, while your brain is in a state of heightened neuroplasticity.
Meaning-Making: We process the thoughts, images, or feelings that arose during your experience.
Actionable Steps: We bridge the gap between the "Aha!" moments of the session and your daily life. We focus on how to embody these new insights to improve your self-worth and relationships.
Nervous System Regulation: We use this time to reinforce your resilience and practice new ways of responding to stress.
A Collaborative Approach
It’s important to remember that I operate as your clinical guide. While I facilitate the therapy and the integration, I do not prescribe the medication. I will work closely with your medical prescriber through Journey Clinical to coordinate your care and ensure your journey is safe, ethical, and effective.
Pricing
Preparation Session (53 minutes) = $150
Individual Ketamine (Self) Dosing Session (2-3 hours) = $300 – $450

KAP (ketamine-assisted psychotherapy) treatment consists of approximately 2 – 5 preparatory sessions, followed by 6 – 8 dosing sessions with an integration session within days of each dosing session. The medical prescriber charges approximately $350 for the initial hour-long medical intake, and $295 for 30-minute follow up visits. (This may change as the prescriber adjusts pricing).
I completed my Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) training through Journey Clinical. I’m proud to bring this powerful modality into Bourne Therapeutic Services to support my clients.
